Earlier this year TF reported that the Highlander reboot was back on track, with RCR Media Group pitching in to assist Summit Entertainment finance the film. At that time Summit claimed Justin Lin was still on board when it came to directing. Today Summit announced that Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intruders) can be helming the reboot – effectively removing Lin as head honcho in an apt nod to a chain that uses decapitation to weed out weak warriors from the strong. It seems Lin might need a marginally of the immortal about him, though. The statement goes directly to say that, “Justin Lin can even executive produce”. Ramirez can be proud. Highlander might be written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway and production is slated to start out spring of 2012.
