Elephants, Lion Cubs: Blair Underwood Ticks Items Off His Bucket List

Summer was eventful for Blair Underwood. The actor, 47, just returned from a two-week-long trip to South Africa and Zambia, where he was in a position to check a couple of items off his bucket list – including cage diving with sharks!

Underwood traveled first to Cape Town, his favorite city on this planet. It is a significant place for the actor: He married his wife there; it is the setting of his novel, From Cape Town, with Love; and he had always desired to take his whole family, including his three children, to the South African city.

While there, Underwood enjoyed a visit to satisfy lions within the wild. He describes it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and an unforgettable one for his entire family. Accompanied by rangers, the crowd walked for an hour with 1-year-old lion cubs, taking the animals to their watering hole. The Underwoods then spent an hour with the cubs, which the actor described as “soft and irresistible,” and Underwood needed to remind himself constantly that they were wild animals.

Next, the family traveled to Zambia, where they went on an elephant safari. The extreme” creatures” moved silently during the brush in a space overlooking Victoria Falls, but Underwood got even closer – and fed the massive creatures by hand.
